Hi there

I'mlooking for any information someone might have about Mary Jane Pursley who was born on Belle Isle, Couty Tyrone about 1834. Parents Robert and Jane. Sheimmigrated to Australia and married William James Waters in 1862. She died in Sydney in 1910.

Her father Robert was a carpenter, I have found him in a directory for Trillick listing him under Carpenters and Cartwrights in the 1860s.

I'm wondering if Robert was working on the castle on Belle Isle in the early 1830s when Mary Jane was born???

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. My mum has been searching for over 30 years to find info about Mary Jane's life in Ireland and now I have taken up the search too!

To find Irish ancestors for such an early period you need to see if church records exist.
Have a look at Introduction to Irish Records and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Jo7,
Just a quick reply for now - I am a 65 year old Great Great Granddaughter of Mary Jane Pursley.
I don't know anything about her life in Ireland and only have minimal information about her life in Australia.
The hard drive I was storing all my info on 'crashed' and I now only have some notes, a copy of my Great Grandmother's Birth Certificate along with a few photos but sadly none of Mary Jane.
I don't believe she lived a very happy married life with William James Waters - as a matter of fact I stumbled upon you while Googling for information about Mary Jane.
Let me know if you would like any further info from me and in the meantime I will search amongst my keepsakes for more info for you and scan a few photos of her descendants...

Thanks for your message. It's great to have a link with someone related to Mary Jane. I too am a great great grand daughter of Mary Jane's. And I do have a photo of her too. She didn't have a happy ;life with William and separated from him. Her daughter Emma Jane Waters is my great grandmother who married Thomas Henry Booker. Their son Alfred Henry Booker is my maternal grandfather. I do have more photos of the family. My mum has actually called her home Belle Isle after Mary Jane's birthplace.
