John BEESLEY (various spellings) Noke, Oxfordfordshire 1751
« on: Monday 07 February 11 00:00 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any marriage details for John Beesley christened Noke Oxon.  29 december 1751 to John Bazeley and Mary Grant, both of Noke.  Siblings Mary, Ann, Elizabeth, William, Joseph, Benjamin and Robert spellings variously shown as Bazeley, Beesley, Basely and Beasley.  Trying to prove that he is my husband's GGGG Grandfather who married an Elizabeth Unknown, place unknown, but children born Ickford, Buckinghamshire, where both he and Elizabeth died and are buried.  Any records that might help prove the connection or otherwise.
Thanks,
Sue  :D

Hi,
Just in case you don't already have this info -
John BAZELY of Noke married Mary GRANT of Charlt/Otmoor at Bicester 13 Jul 1740

The only John & Elizabeth marriages I can find in the OMI around the right time frame are -
John BAZELY of Deddington married Elizabeth WATTS at Lower Heyford 2 Oct 1770
John BEESLEY of Wooton BRK married Elizabeth CHAPMAN at OX St Giles 23 Nov 1771

Good luck with your research.

Hi Bev,

Thanks for that information, it was kind of you to go to the trouble.  I believe John Bazely and Mary Grant to be his parents, though I did not have where Mary was from. I have looked at John Beesley of Wooton a few times, but don't believe that is the one.  I had not come across John Bazely of Deddington and Elizabeth Watts before.  The spelling is how most of the siblings were spelt and I actually have a note on my records that John Bazely senior lived a time in Deddington, but can't remember where I got that information from.  Certainly worth some more investigation as there are not many likely records.
Thanks for the help,
Sue  :-*

I will keep a note of this post and send anything i find on Joseph, who may or not be one of the siblings you mention.

Hi Suellen,
James Beaseley, as christening recorded on Noke parish register, was 5 December 1802 as you said to Joseph Beesley (I try to record the spellings as shown even though it can get confusing) and Margaret (I have not been able to find her maiden name).   I have his death as 1832 at Noke and buried at St. Giles Noke (do you have his wife's name?).   Joseph christened 25 May 1760 at St. Giles Noke and died 20 February 1826 recorded as Beesley at Noke.  Margaret was born after 1763 and died Noke as Beesley on 29 January 1819.    James siblings were William (1/1/1781), Martha (25/9/1785), John (5/8/1787), Joseph (7/9/1790), Ann (12/8/1792), Rachel (3/5/1795), Sophia (12/3/1797), and Mary who I have as 1785 and therefore probably twin of Martha.   All records from the Noke parish registers which are available on line and a fabulous resource.  Parents Joseph (1760) are John Bazeley (29 May 1719) and Mary Grant (17/10/1718) both Noke christenings.  Marriage 13/7/1740 St. Edburgh Bicester Oxon.  John's parents appear to be John Bazeley (1690) christened Bladon and Anna Hyrons (now Irons) christened 24/5/1688 Noke, marriage 28/10/1722 St. Giles Noke.  John and Anna have not been fully confirmed and some have different parents.  Anna's father is William Hyrons also Noke death 1828.  Hope you can follow all this.  Your side is well documented as they remained at Noke.  John Beesley (1751) is James's uncle.  Hope you can follow that.   I can give you more details if you would like them.

Good luck, Sue

Hi Sue

I have my James Beesley buried 23rd January 1868, Noke. I have picked him and the family up on the 1841, 51, & 61 census. in 1861 he has a niece Emily Baldwin living with them.
I don't have his wife's name but it may be Jane Roberts of Kidington married at Northmoor, i have to follow this one up. Their daughter (my gg grandmother) ends up working in Acton as a parlor maid (1861 census).
There is an Elizabeth Beesley widow age 67 from Northampton in Noke in 1861.

Hi Suellen,

Apologies picked up the wrong James, there are so many of these Beazleys especially as you come down the generations.  You are right James died 23/1/1868 in Noke.  Wife Jane Roberts, marriage 22 November 1825 at Noke to James Beesley (parish record), but also shown 1825 at Northmoor Oxon (Pallot's).  One is probably a reading of the banns.   Children Henry (22/4/1827) wife Elizabeth Steele?, Charles 3/4/1829 wife Anne Elizabeth Wake, Emily 27/3/1831, James 4/6/1832, Ann 2/2/1834, Jane Maria 27/9/1835, Frederick 2/4/1837. James William 2/6/1839, Julia 13/9/1840 all Noke christenings.  Elizabeth is a common Beazley name, Elizabeth wife of John (1751) definitely died Ickford Bucks 28/1/1839 as I have copy death certificate.
Hope that one agrees with your records.
Regards, Sue

Hi Sue

Tried adding a smiley and lost my message!

Thanks for all that its wonderfull. Let me know if you find a definite connection to the Noke Beesley's, it would be great to work out the whole tree. I will keep my eye open for you on John's (1751) marrage and any other information.
There are some great pic's of Noke on the Oxford cc web site, its a nice little village, we called in last summer, are you local to Oxfordshire?
Could you tell me what web site Noke parish registers are on, all I have seen are some pretty ratty transcripts in the library.
All the best
Suellen

Hi Suellen,

Happy to help.  I believe that all the Bazleys, Beazleys, Beesleys, etc. that come from Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire are all descended from the Noke and surrounds line, the spelling has just changed because they were mainly ag labourers until the later generations and it was up to the parish registrar how the name was spelt. I think if I can prove the connection of John Beesley or Noke and John Beesley of Ickford Bucks, I can connect virtually all of them.  Each descendant had quite a few children which spread the line far and wide - Buckinghamshire, London, Australia, USA, etc.  Anyway that is my theory and would love to prove it if possible.
The Noke parish register site is http://home.btconnect.com/stgiles_noke/.  You need to work through the various listings and will find a number of different spellings of Bazley/Beesley.
I am actually in Melbourne, Australia.  My husband is 6th generation of the Beazleys who migrated here.  George Beazley wife and family migrated 1851 followed by his parents in 1852
Benjamin & Ann Beazley (nee Haines).  Benjamin was son of John of Ickford who was buried in Ickford 25/12/1834.
Good luck with your research,

Sue  :-*
