workhouse infirmary

Like many people, I have ancestors with workhouse connections, including one old lady who died in the workhouse infirmary in 1909. There's no other evidence to show that she was a workhouse resident, so I'm curious to know whether she necessarily was one, or whether she might just have been admitted to the infirmary when she became ill. Many thanks for any answers people might have.

as there was no national health service most working class folk used the workhouse for medical reasons so nothing out of the ordinary in that , have you seen the workhouse site www.workhouses.org.uk you may get more info from there .

Many people as said before were very poor and would visit the infirmary at the workhouse, as they could not afford to pay for a doctor.

I have one ancestor who had all her children in the workhouse infirmary and then went home after each birth.

Many of these workhouses and workhouse infirmaries went on to become cottage hospitals etc.,
