St Bede's Brindle - Bennison
« on: Sunday 06 February 11 19:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am very hopeful that someone may be able to find a few clues to help me in the RC parish records around Brindle.

I have a marriage cert for Richard Bennison and Jane Gerrard on 6 Nov 1846 at St Bedes RC chapel in Clayton Green.  Jane was born abt 1818 in Upholland and Richard was born about 1822 in Brindle.  I have tracked them easily following the marriage (thanks to census!) but would love to pin down more information re birth and baptisms and I am hoping that the parish records may help.

According to the marriage cert, Richard Bennison's father is also called Richard and Jane's father is, interestingly, given as Henry Fazackerly - occupation given as a Farmer.

Can anyone find evidence of baptisms for either of these please?
Any information or ideas about Henry Fazackerly also gratefully received!

Many thanks in advance for your consideration

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

Does the marriage cert show Jane as a widow or a spinster

1841 census for Brindle

Richard Bennison 35
Jane   55
Henry 25
Lawrence 20
Ellen 20
Richard  15
William  15
HO107 Piece 525/1  Folio 33 Page 5

Ages from 16yrs upwards were rounded down to the nearest 5yrs in 1841 so Richard & William were not necessarily twins

EDIT - per IGI William was christened in 1824

Hi

Thanks for this.  Yes, this is the right family.  The marriage cert shows Jane as a spinster so I am guessing she was illegitimate and yet named her real father on the marriage certificate.  Do you think that would make sense?

Thanks for the IGI reference.  I had come across this also - but I was a bit confused.  I thought that there were no RC records on the IGI.  Do you know if this is true or not??
I am getting very mixed up.  Would it be possible to be baptised in a Cof E church yet married in RC faith?

There are RC records on the IGI - there just aren't as many of them as C of E records

It was left to each Dioscesan Bishop to give or refuse access to the records by the Mormon Church.  Many refused

Thanks for that clarification.
That certainly helps to make a bit more sense then.

These are slightly earlier than you want, but may be useful:
