A few of my favourites:

The Idle Working Men's Club has already been mentioned.

Up the hill from Heptonstall, West Yorks, is Slack. Along the road a little each way are Slack Top and Slack Bottom.

On the way to Heysham is the village of Bare, which has a Bare Women's Institute. Bare Dry Cleaners used to handle stuff from all over Lancashire.

In Nova Scotia I came across the town of Economy, which had many buildings which must have been built on the cheap, including the Economy United Church and the Economy Store. A little further west I came across a sign which said much about the world:-
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

Did you sort out the real place names, coombs?

Some of my maternal line came from Jericho.  It's a part of Oxford (UK).  So is Mesopotamia.

Not sure whether the anti-swearing bot will pick this up and chuck it into oblivion, so I'll alter it slightly ... Parsons Lane in Banbury was once known as ...

Gropec*nt Lane

Just saw this on Pub Dig, the other day!

I live in Sydney, Australia, and I'm researching: Powell, Tatham, Dunbar, Dixon, Mackwood, Kinnear, Mitchell, Morgan, Delves, & Anderson
