Well, this weekend on the way up to Malvern, I passed a sign for 'Picken End'.

Presumably any end will do... ;D

Cumbria has a "Cockup," "Little Cockup" and a "Great Cockup" as well as some strange spellings of places such as Torpenhow pronounced Trepenna

I love the sound of Little Snoring, and Great Snoring, not far from Stiffkey in Norfolk ;D

Think I'll send hubby off to Great Snoring ZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Su

Drove through these yesterday.  I wouldnt have taken much interest before reading this but there is a road sign as you enter saying "High Accident Risk Area". ;D  Is that cos theyre all sleeping at the wheel?
Also on the way is Sculthorpe which has numerous red signs saying "Cats Eyes Removed" (moggy lovers beware!) ;D ;D
And Melton Constable - is that cos the weather is hot?

Helhoughton - and it was!  Got stuck behind what I politely call 'Rolling Roadblocks' - the dreaded caravans!!!

and on and on and on.......

Loweswater has some safe roads even the road signs say "Red squirrels drive with care"

So I can't work out if they have to drive with care, or if they do drive with care

There is a village in Perthshire near Aberfeldy called Dull but my favourite is a called Pool of Muckhart.  We looked at buying a house there but the name did put us off a bit!

Nothumberland has a "Once Brewed" and a "Twice Brewed" on the old military Road, and isn't there a mousehole or similar sounding place in Devon or Cornwall (sorry to any locals for not knowing which)

I used to live in Giggleswick, near Settle.  It used to be in West Yorkshire but it was moved to North Yorkshire.

I was married in Settle.  When my Aunt told her children she was going to Settle in Yorkshire they wondered why she wanted to move.
