I just don't see why some people are so touchy about their age - as long as I'm still here and causing chaos and mayhem to my friends and family, I don't care who knows how old I am  :-*  And, yes it is on my profile - I'm 68 and proud of it  ;)

I think that it is helpful to people trying to advise if at least the country and preferably roughly where in that country is included in everyones profile.  It is extremely embarrassing to suggest that someone visits the Guildhall Library in London and then to get a reply that they live in Australia or even Scotland when that information is not included in their profile.

Age is unlikely to be relevant but there are other personal details that some people might consider worth including.
Living in Berkshire from Northampton & Milton Keynes

I have read what all you youngsters have posted here and I really don't mind if youy wish to conceal your age.

I very much doubt that sexual predators will choose a site such as this to contact teens considering the wealth of sites with personal data and populated almost solely by teens.

That may provide some barrier to effective help as there may be resources and financial implications not available to most teenagers.

Town, county, at least the country where you live is really very important for the obvious and well-stated reasons given by some of you.
Southern or Southan [Hereford , Monmouthshire & Glos], Jenkins, Meredith and Morgan [Monmouthshire and Glos.], Murrill, Damary, Damry, Ray, Lawrence [all Middx. & London], Nethway from Kenn or Yatton. Also Riley and Lyons in South Africa and Riley from St. Helena.

Think how we trace descendants  --- with minimal info ---- what could a fraudster do... with name - area - dob...etc...

That is why I prefer not to broadcast too much.

As it is with info I have given when asking for help.. a good researcher  can find what they need about me.!!!!!!!!

NOT Paranoid, just careful..

Facebook and other sites contain a wealth of personal info on users profiles which they put so a fraudster would probably use one of those sites rather than this site.

Don't underestimate what that sort of person is capable of or what they will resort to in their mission. Just a key word or two could send them to this site and from there it would be easy to find their targets if children publicised their ages.

That, however is not the reason why I don't disclose my age (I am an adult).  To be honest I'm sick to death of people/institutions asking for my age or date of birth when it's not relevant. I either refuse to give it or if they insist (usually on the basis 'we can't put you on our computer system') I lie.  If you report a crime the police now want your d.o.b. before any other details and you have to give it to them. I'm not the criminal for heaven's sake!

What difference does it make to this site as to how old we are? Although I appreciate that this is a sweeping and sometimes unfair generalisation - if you want to guess at which generation we belong to, look at our spelling and grammar!
Bell, Salter, Street - Devon, Middlesbrough.
Lickess- North Yorkshire, Middlesbrough.
Etherington - North Yorks and Durham.
Barker- North Yorks
Crooks- Durham
Forster- North Yorks/Durham
Newsam, Pattison, Proud - North Yorks.
Timothy, Griffiths, Jones - South Wales

I am not naive(nor paranoid) regarding giving information to all and sundry. neither do I believe that my personal details are hidden . (Any serious hacker can detail every aspect of my life)
After all that is precisely what we are doing ,with regard to our relations...

So on here I put my age..so that any younger member can query, perhaps the social life from the 30s and 40s..
Where I live can possibly help someone looking for information in this rural area.

I certainly would not put any personal details on social networking sites (having seen the details young relations have put on .)

I am more concerned with GR contacts who put on their Trees personal details of living relations

Besides there is a certian amount of smugness? pride? satisfaction ? in knowing that one is staggering  towards 80 and wondering if one will equal my Ma .who made 90..

Come to think of it. perhaps I really don't care now, who knows what about me!!  Sort of legacy to posterity!!
