Hello  :)

Do you have William's death certificate? This should give his address at the time of his death, which may help identify nearby cemeteries where he may be buried.

I see the death on freebmd - William Roberts age 73 in 1871 (Sep Q)
Narberth 11a 431 but Narberth district is a large area.

Best wishes
Morgan

Hi Damian

As per my message on the 29th, William is buried at Molleston Baptist Church and Mary probably at Begelly Church of England. His stone survives (in 2008 when I saw it anyway), but not sure about her's. The information about her I provided you was from the Begelly parish register.

Happy hunting

Jon

Hello everyone,

this is my first post.

I can see many discussions going on here about the day family.

I am a direct descendant of James day who worked at catershill farm. The farm during the mid 1800's was left to James day's son - Joseph Day who married James Rees' daughter. James Rees originally owned the farm.

Many of you have noted that you have DAY family history and i would very much like to see what you have researched.

I recently received an email from an Australian chap who lives in Perth, who's mother was a descendant from James Day.

It appears as though the DAY family in pembrokeshire is very extensive, and I would love to hear about any discoveries or indeed living ancestors that I have no idea about!

Kind Regards,
Rob Day
Tenby

Damian

ref my post on 8/4/10:

The original post answers most of your questions.

However, the Harcourt Powell family owned the land at Carne, the Day family were tenant farmers leasing the land directly fromt Harcourt Powells. The Harcourt Powell estate records for their lands in Pembrokeshire are held at the Pembrokeshire Record Office (PRO) at Haverfordwest.

I should have been clearer about document 188. This is part of a series of letters held at PRO in ref D/POW/H/169-196. Document 188 is part of this and shows that until about 1823, the Days were sub-tenants to the Harcourt Powell estate, not tenants. This helps explain why the family does not appear on other useful sources such as the Land Tax records for Begelly, also held at PRO.

When you go to PRO, ask to see the Harcourt Powell estate records catalogue and pick out any interestting documents covering Carn. The staff will get these documents for you. If memory serves me right, there are not many.

Catershill and Carn farms are in Begelly parish.

Jon
