I note that in 1881 the family is at Sparsholt, which is about half way between Woolstone and Wantage.

Another pointer for the domestic servant in East Molesley.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

Emily's father William certainly moved around, probably further than his sheep.

In 1901 he appears to be at Upper Lambourn. Although in Berkshire, that's only about 12 miles from the centre of Swindon.

Thanks all for the information. You have given me plenty to go on.
I thought young Emily must have been born at Emilys parents,as many women did have mother around  in those days.
