James Crowley born 1810 Cork
« on: Friday 04 February 11 14:38 GMT (UK) »
My James Crowley was born approx 1810 in Cork Ireland.  He was a farmer and immigrated to the US around 1840.  He married Hannah Fenton in Massachusettes and they had 2 children there - Mary and Daniel born 1846 and 1849.  They then bought a farm in Altona NY and had the following children:  Dennis, Johanna, Ellen, John and James.  John was my great grandfather - would love to find out more about the Fenton's and Crowley's

For events as early as 1810 you will need to research parish records to try to find details such as baptisms. To start a search you need to know two details  a) the family religion, and b) where the your Crowley family lived (i.e. town, townland or parish). The search is further complicated by the fact that Cork is the largest county in Ireland and also that Crowley is a very common surname in the area. Note : not all parishes will have records going back as far as 1810.
