Young Pousty Durkie
« on: Thursday 03 February 11 22:22 GMT (UK) »
My great grandfather Robert Young was born in Scotland about 1811 I know not where. He died in Australia in 1870.
I am trying to trace family back from Robert. His father was Charles, an innkeeper in Fife and married a Penelope ? My father used to say he thought it was Pousty, Pouty or something like that and her mother was a Durkie. I have looked at Scotlands people, but, they charge for searches and I am not sure if I am even on a track that could lead anywhere. So before I start paying, which I don't mind, any help to get me going would be thankfully received. Thanks, Tony

Brilliant - thanks a lot - I started to reply and it said there was another message coming. So thank you for both.

I have now been looking at the LDS site and found a Charles Young christened 12 May 1775 father William and mother Janet in Cupar. o this somewhere I should be looking obviously. Thanks again, Tony

This is a long shot as Penelope isn't the most common christian name

I wonder if Penelope snr died and Charles remarried

There is this 1841 entry for 11 Dalrymple Place Edinburgh

Charles Young 60
Mary 60
Penelope 25 (indexed as Penbope)
Edinburgh St Cuthberts ED 22 Page  2

Basic search on Scotlands People shows one death for a Penelope Young 1841-1851 but not in Fife - in Midlothian - which ties in with the Edinburgh 1841 so is possibly the Penelope on that entry

Thanks again, I see what you mean. I have never considered wife dying and remarriage. Already starting from absolutely nothing I have something to kick me along. I am so grateful for your help. Thank you CaroleW

This has been emailed to me by a distant relative updating my original post.

Robert Young born 1811 Scotland died in 1870 in Sydney, Australia
Robert's father Charles an Inn keeper in Fife, married a Penelope Pousty middle of 1798. I now have a Penelope Pousty born 23/6/1779. Charles is supposed to be born in 1775 father William Young and Janet Young in Cupar.
