Good point - hadn't thought that that would be the case! Berry travelled through both sides of the family, and lives on to this day in the middle name of my wife's uncle.
John Black on the Census 1901 has an immigration date of 1880 but it's been transcribed as 1890 - was lucky enough to get a look at it!
James Berry Black appears on the US Census, weirdly, in 1880, staying with an uncle John in Stark, Il. It asks more questions than it answers, to be honest - such as, why only one brother in Il in 1880, and the other elsewhere? - but both appear to be over that side of the Atlantic in 1880, which makes me think I've possibly got the right guys.
Please keep it coming! This is all great stuff!
