My great,great,grandfather,William Burgess, was,at the time of his marriage in 1838,living in Dyers Lane, Deansgate,Manchester.Can anyone tel me any info or census returns of that address?Many thanks.

Its very faint but I think George Burgess might be a joiner.

Dyers Lane was at the Castlefield end of Deansgate, approximately in the area where the Great Northern complex is now. Between Deansgate, Watson St and Great Bridgewater st, which you can still see on the map today. Dyers Lane was still there in 1894 (according to Godfrey map Manchester SW, 1894)

In 1851 no Burgess's living in Dyer's Lane. The houses are numbered 1 to 21 plus a No 1 Court having dwellings 1, 2 and 3.
