Martin family Ballymabella Killallaghtan Galway
« on: Thursday 03 February 11 09:58 GMT (UK) »
Looking for anscesters of Michael Martin and his wife Mary Monahan from Ballymabella, Killallaghtan Co Galway. The family emigrated to US possibly New York sometime between 1911-1920. In the 1901 census Martin is listed as 45 yrs old and a farmer , he lived with his older brother Thomas also a farmer who was head of family. His wife Mary was 35 yrs old. Their children were Catherine, Ellen, Bridget, Mary, John, Agnes, Thomas, Maryanne and  Patrick all born in Co Galway. Their eldest daughter Catherine was not listed on the 1911 census and could have emigrated to New York that same year. The family are listed on the 1920 US Census Philidelphia, Michael, 55 yrs, Mary 45 yrs, John 19yrs, Agnes 17 yrs, Elizabeth 15yrs, Edward 7 yrs, and Joseph 4 yrs old. I cannot find a birth record for Catherine b. Dec 1889. I have a Baptism record for her from Cappataggle parish. I am also searching for a marriage record for Michael Martin & Mary Monahan . The 1911 census lists they were married 21 years. Any information would be great.

I don't think that the family you found on the 1920 Census in Philadelphia is the right one, as it lists all the children as born in Pennsylvania and gives immigration dates prior to 1900 for both parents and the same family appears to be in Philadelphia for the 1910 Census.
