Mr R. Trowsdale "Completed with thanks"
« on: Wednesday 02 February 11 21:51 GMT (UK) »
Seeking a jpeg of the headstone of Mr R. Trowsdale of Vancouver born in Pembrokeshire. He died in Vancouver on the 18 July 1940 and buried there with full military honours on the 22nd July 1940.
Mr Trowsdale served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during W.W. 1 and took part in the brilliant Canadian Vimy campaign. I understand he was in the “Fifth Battalion”, but do not know what regiment. Prior to his leaving for Canada he had worked on a local newspaper.
Any assistance appreciated, I can assist widely in Pembrokeshire where required.

Soldiers of the first World War
You can see attestation papers, and you can find if someone has died fighting,

You can also find the Soldier's Number,   and can find more about that person.

Robert William Trowsdale
Regiment # 13164
b. 29 Jan 1881 d. July 19, 1940
Journalist
enlisted Sept. 18, 1914 in Valcartier, Quebec
buried Mountain View Cemetery, Vancouver, location: HORNE2/*/15/028/0012

You can order his complete military file at the site given by vbain. The files are usually about 25 pages and will contain information for next of kin, pay documents, regiments and transfers, injuries and hospitals, information as to where living on return to Canada. Some will have follow up information especially if the soldier requires continuing medical care. With the information contained in the military file, you can usually find the battles he was involved with through the war diaries. The war diaries are available on line at the site provided by vbain. You have asked for a picture of his headstone. You may be able to get that by contacting Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver or by using the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness. Hopefully, someone living in the Vancouver area will see this and take the picture for you.

Tks for the information, I was well aware of Library and Archives Canada of Ottawa K1A 0N4, have recieved the most fantastic file of information on an canadian airmen involved in flying accident in Pembrokeshire.

The consideration, help and assistance afforded me by the ATIP and Personal Records Div Services Branch has been nothing less than of the most highest order. Such results I have received, we can only dream of obtaining on this side of the pond.

The most important thing at present is to obtain a jpeg of his headstone.

Hi
I was looking for my g.father's stone in Ocean View cemetery in Vancouver and could not find it. I contacted the cemetery, and they quickly found the area, and stone. I think they would at least give you transcription, and possinly a photo. It's worth a try.

What can one say, but my most heartfelt thanks for the jpeg of Roberts headstone.
Perhaps one day I can reciprocate with any research from Canada required in Pembrokeshire.
Kind rgds
