James & Elizabeth COE c1750 Morningthorpe
« on: Wednesday 02 February 11 15:53 GMT (UK) »
I have found details on FreeReg of a James & Elizabeth COE in the parish of Morningthorpe.

They appear to have had 2 sons baptised there - Henry in 1749 & John in 1751.  Burials are then recorded of the wife of James Coe in 1757 & James Coe in 1785 but I am unable to find any other mention of them.

If anyone can help I would love to know when & where they were married & if there were any other children.

All donations gratefully received

Hi,
Although Morningthorpe has the parish registers online, not all the relevant dates are included. Archdeacon and bishop transcripts are also now available on familysearch beta site, (not looked on the pilot). From the archdeacon transcripts: Image 20 has the burial of the wife of James Coe. Image 13 Henry's baptism, John's is image 14. James burial is image 43 and gives his age as 65 so probably born c 1720. Didn't find any marriage in Morningthorpe though.

Not found any marriages on the transcription sites, although there is an Elizabeth Tyrril marrying a James Coe 2 May 1736 on familysearch in Suffolk in Hart....  (??)

If you think they are from Norfolk, you might try trawling through the online parish registers or the AT transcripts. Not easy I admit.

Good luck kaysii

Thank You Kaysii

The Coe's & the Cutler's are leading us a merry dance :)

Hart is almost certainly Hartismere which kind of fits in with some bits that I have found already in that district but I hadn't found that particular marriage - the vagaries of Familysearch but where would we be without it!  I think a visit to SRO might be needed now.

Thanks again
K

Hello, again. Keziah2.
It is a while since i have been active on here but now find myself with time and health to do so.

In regard to James & Elizabeth, i understand that it is a very old post, and I am not sure if you have progressed these 2 as I am also stuck with their unfindable? marriage. I did a bit of digging on the 1736 marriage and find that Hart.... Is in fact Hartest. I got there by copying the film # into LDS and slimming the search down by Hart* as a wildcard and up popped Hartest. In my mind that is ruled out because it is way to far down from their area. In addition I have been through the scans for Morningthorpe and find that there appears to be 2 Henry's baptised, but without a burial between them. And also 2 infant burials in 1745 & 1746. This would push the marriage back a couple of years at least. Bit stuck as there are many gaps in the scans as you probably know.
For want of a better option I am using a Bap in Lopham for James on the 24/02/1715/16. It nearly fits with his burial age.
Regards

Hi

No I haven’t got any further with the Coes but I have found Coe activity in both Oakley & Thrandeston in Suffolk which as the crow flies aren’t actually that far from Morningthorpe. There was also evidence of Coes in the Thornhams which again is not far from the Suffolk/Norfolk border.

Good luck with your continued searches.
