Census - Searching by House
« on: Tuesday 01 February 11 16:46 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Does anyone know if its possible to search a census by address. My partners family live in beautiful victorian farmhouse and I am trying to find out who lived there before they did. Is there any way of searching a census on house name/address. I guess not, but just thought I would check.
As always, thanks in advance for your help.
Kind regards
sophie

It will be possible in the 1881 Census, you could also look in historical directories, as farms are usually listed.

Thanks everyone that's really helpful. To be honest I'm not sure when the farmhouse was built - it looks mid victorian to me, so I guess I would check from 1841 onwards.
The farm is in Lineholt, Ombersley, Worcestershire and is called Lineholt House Farm. There is no road name as such as its such a small hamlet.
I will check the directories as per the link - thank you, much appreciated.

Charle Pardoe (farmer) and his family are also in Lineholt in 1881 & 1871 but there is no actual address.  I can't see him there in 1861

Charles & Marianne are still there in 1901

If you want more details let me know

I'm so excited - thank you thats fantastic - I found C Pardoe listed in Kelly's Directory, in 1892 also.

Yes please - Any  further details you have would be really appreciated - I cant wait to tell the in laws - they will be so pleased!

Mind you I think I'm more interested in the history of the farm than they are. Sadly, gone are the days when farmers were wealthy and the house is now in desperate need of some TLC as a result. How exciting!

Charles is a farmer in Ribbesford, Worcs so not really relevant to this discussion (unless you want to follow the family right back)
