The BBC series was called " A job worth doing", having had some more thought on the subject it was more likely to be in the 1970's

Gyde Orphanage was, I think, Gyde House - the Gydes were a notable Painswick family. I understand the building has now been converted into flats. It should be possible to get photos...... I'll try if you're interested  :)

That article is interesting, especially the bit where the builder assumes children were abused there.  I wonder when that was.  When my son used to play with some of the children from the home - actually up at the home - in the 1970s, there was never any suggestion of anyone being abused.

I found the article very interesting.

My mother and her brother were at the Orphanage in 1921? She was about 6 years old. Always told me she had a great time and fond memories of Gyde.

Thank you for the offer of taking some photo's, however my husband and I have been to Gyde House, to find it was now flats. I very kind resident gave us a copy of Gyde House booklet 2ND, and low and behold a photo of my mother's brother.

My grandfathers best man at his first marriage was a Charles Gyde,born in Painswick..I wonder if he had any connection to the Orphanage.
Weaving...Rodborough,Stroud,Ruscombe.
