You need the catalogue forGoucestershire Archives http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/DServe/DServe.exe?dsqIni=DServeA.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqCmd=Search.tcl

This is best searched via Firefox rather than IE, and the most important result for you is:
FindingRef    D7137
Title    Painswick: Gyde Charities
Date    1865-1989
AccessConditions
THESE RECORDS ARE OPEN IMMEDIATELY FOR RESEARCH EXCEPT D7137/1/2/1-2, 1/2/4, 1/3/29, 2/1/2-3, 2/2/1 AND 2/3/3-4 WHICH ARE CLOSED UNTIL 31 YEARS OLD, AND D7137/1/3/8-12 WHICH ARE CLOSED UNTIL 76 YEARS OLD
Description    Minutes 1913-1973, accounts 1921-1981 and other records (1893)-1986 of the trustees of the "First Charity" (for blind and deaf and dumb children) and Orphanage; minutes 1910-1987, register of applicants and inmates 1913-1979, accounts 1914-1989 and other records 1865-1969 of the trustees of the Almshouses

Unless you are able to find someone who is going to Gloucester in the near future and could look for you, it would probably be worth contacting the Archives to see if they can help.

My son had a schoolfriend who was at Gyde House (as it was called in the 1970s) and he wished he could live there too, as the surroundings were beautiful.  Not sure if it's been knocked down now, but certainly all the land has been built on.

Stroud Round Table and Ladies Circle quite often held fetes and things in the grounds to raise money for them and other good causes.

The main website for the Archives seem fine in IE, but the catalogue doesn't always display properly in IE.
If you can't access the first link I gave you, try
http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/DServe/DServe.exe?dsqIni=DServeA.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqCmd=Search.tcl
Type gyde orphanage in the "any text" box, and you should get 7 results, the sixth being D7137. The others may be of interest, but I think this is the one that might have some useful info.

http://www.actionforchildren.org.uk/content/303/Former-care-residents

this site has records of all children in care......they may be able to help you

Did you know Gyde orphanage was supposed to be haunted after it closed and was sold the contractors swore they could still hear the children running about!!

The BBC made a program from the Gyde house during the 1960's, it is possible to request a copy from them, sorry I do not remember the name of the series that it came from
If you cannot get rid of the family skeleton, you may as well make it dance
