Grave of William Adam Harkness
« on: Sunday 30 January 11 13:26 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the burial place of William Adam Harkness.

Born 26 March 1898, Ballinware, Nenagh, Tipperary, Ireland.
Died 29 September 1943, Bournemouth.

Son of Henry Edward Harkness and Isabella Adam. Husband of Maud Mee.

He was living in Stewart Road, Bournemouth and working in a bomb factory at the time of his death. The funeral was held in Bournemouth but we don't know where his remains are interred and would love to know.

Any help gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance,

KK

Surprised you've had no replies, yet. Since you have the dates, first step should be for someone to visit Bournemouth Reference Library for you and look up the Echo archives around the relevant date. Not sure when I might get a chance, but I'll keep a note and check when I can go if anyone else has helped. If he was buried & lived in Stewart Road, he is probably in Wimborne Road Cemetery, which is no more than a stones throw.

That's brilliant thanks.  I'll see if I can make progress myself.  Otherwise, any help would be very much appreciated.  Thankyou!

Hi KK

I managed Bournemouth Reference Library this morning with mixed results. I searched the Bournemouth Echo from 29th September to 17th October and failed to find a death notice. There was a report of his death in the edition of 30th September - for some reason, I don't seem to be able to attach a copy, so I will try sending a PM with it attached. It appeared he was working at a bakery when he died. As he died at work, and was only 45, there may well have been an inquest, but that may have been a considerable time later, and not easy to locate from the Echo archives. If you can find a source for coroners inquest archives and get a date, I could have another look, as there were several extended inquest reports in the couple of weeks I looked at. If I can get down to the Dorset FHS, I will see what burial records they have transcribed and if they include Bournemouth (which is not really part of Dorset!).

regards

Richard

As I'm not allowed to attach an image to posts in this section, and I couldn't attach one to a PM, I have created a new thread in the main Dorset section with the Echo report attached.
