NELLIE NEWTON c. 1902 in Levenshulme
« on: Saturday 29 January 11 13:00 GMT (UK) »
Can anybody help with this?

I am trying to find out more about NELLIE NEWTON born in 1902 in Levenshulme.

Her parents were HARRY WILLIAM NEWTON born c. 1878 in Stoke on Trent and ELLEN DAISY SLACK born c. 1878 in Manchester.

She married PERCY SUTCLIFFE in September 1931 (Manchester South 8d 54)

In the 1911 census she was living at 8A Stockport Road, Levenshulme.

I would like to find out if she had any children, whether these children married, and subsequently whether they had any children.

It would also be interesting to know when and where both Nellie and Percy died.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Mike  :)

I think we have to be careful with this, living people may be involved. If you go onto FreeBMD, select BIRTHS,  surname=SUTCLIFFE, mothers maiden name=NEWTON and then FIND, we get these after 1931.

Unless any of them are dead, it is a bit of NO-NO to ask for help with living people, i am sad to say.

As Migky says, we can't search for living people unless they are dead (bless you Mig  ;D), but we do our best!

Have you seen the Probate Register entry for Nellie's mum Daisy Ellen Newton?  Its on Ancestry, with Percy and Nellie Sutcliffe named.

Daisy Ellen Newton, widow, of Tenby, Ack Lane, Bramhall Cheshire, died 17 Jan 1940 leaving efffects of £2370 8s 11d. Probate granted in London on 17th June to Percy Sutcliffe, commercial traveller, and Nellie Sutcliffe, wife.

If you sent for Daisy's will, it would probably give you Percy and Nellie's address at the time the probate was granted.

Just checked and that sum of money would be a small fortune these days. Now if you think there is a couple of quid spare to get me a pint of the black stuff ( Guinness ) i think i might have a go at looking on the 2003 &2005 electoral rolls for any one you think could be conected to them but will do it via PM as not  to brake the rules on here  ;D

" In 1940, £2,370 8s 11d would have the same spending worth of today's £68,079.20
"

By the way joking about the beer ;D

The BT Phone book archive has a P Sutcliffe at Tenby Ack Lane, Bramhall, between 1941 & 1952, so it looks as if they inherited the house or were already living there when Daisy died.

Still in Bramhall by 1973 but the address changes, will PM you and Migky.
Probably also worth checking the Cheshire BMDs for deaths of Nellie and Percy

Thanks - I know about the difficulties with naming people that are still alive - hence the use of PM.
I think that the Stockport one is the best option - I'll check it out.
