Foundling Hospital, Little James St
« on: Friday 28 January 11 21:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

Distant relative William Flenley noted as being headmaster of the boys' school at the Foundling Hospital in 1824 and possibly also in 1836.

Does anyone know where I might find records to back this up? Am keen to work out quite how distant a relative he is!

Thanks!

two mentions of William in records for Church of Ireland parishes in Dublin city  :

Marriage of John Bayley and Mary Eliz. Jones 12 January 1830
Parish : St. Peter's Church of Ireland

A William Flenley is a witness

Burial of William Flenley 27 October 1833
Parish : St. Catherine's Church of Ireland

His address is given as Foundling Hospital.

According to an 1834 directory (Pettigrew and Oulton) the foundling Hospital was at the eastern end of James street

Gives a lot of rather grim info about the foundling hospital. Shows records were kept quite regularly'

Google books gives several contemporary references to William
Flenley using Flenley Foundling Hospital Dublin as the search term.

http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/17917295/family

this has the same info and its public.

I see the other person is blocking contact for the moment. There are three or four others with the same info.

If you have not used Ancestry before:

http://www.searchforancestors.com/ancestryfreebies.html

Just sign up, put William Frenley 1754 Dublin in Search, then choose public family tree and private family tree from the menu below search when the results come up.PM
