Jno A and Eleanor Bernard New Orleans 1837ish
« on: Friday 28 January 11 21:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Im looking for John and Eleanor Bernard who I think were residents of Baton Rouge area. John was said to be a plantation owner but its only heresay from family history. They married in England in 7 Mar 1837 and I believe they would have come to New Orleans sometime after that. Another name I have is  Rosa Bernard but I dont know how she fits in could be a sister of John. I would like to know which ship they arrived on and where they stayed if anyone has access to this information or the names in their tree. They never had any children that I know of.
Thanks

Do you know where in England they were married?  Does Eleanor have a middle name?

Hi
Yes they were married in Dover St Mary the Virgin 7 March 1837. I also found John as a witness to another marriage in August 1837 so they were still in England then. I found a marriage in New Orleans of the same names 1847 but the ages given as 26. I haven't a birthdate for John  but he was a widower and considerably older than Eleanor I think because he died sometime about 1865 -70. I'm not aware of Eleanor having a middle name she never used one in her signature. She was sometimes referred to as Eleanor Bernard de Montjauret as John was the Marquis de Montjauret.
