Hanbury, St. Mary's Monument Look-up Request
« on: Friday 28 January 11 05:22 GMT (UK) »
Thank you for taking my request.  I am trying to find the grave of George Nash who I think is buried in the churchyard at Hanbury; I think it is St. Mary's church.  He died around 1913-15 and may have a grave near his daughter, Elizabeth Bradley and her husband, George Bradley.  I live in Kansas City, Missour, USA so I very much appreciate your help and any advice about finding his grave.

Kind regards,

Kevin Johnston

Hi Kevin,
The Church at Hanbury is St Mary the Virgin.  I have a copy of the Church Records from 1577 to 1900 so they don't go far enough for your  George Nash's Burial. But there are 17 Burials of people with the surname Nash in Hanbury Church. If you have any more people you would like me to look up please ask. I have found  a marriage for a George Nash 27 labourer of Hanbury to Mary Albutt 40 of Tardebugge daughter of James Albutt farmer  by banns 28 Nov 1889 Wit James Albutt & Elizabeth Albutt could this be your George ?

If I can help further let me know

Yvon

Hello Yvon,

Thank you for taking time to have a look and send your reply.  My g,g,g-grandfather was George Nash, born 1831 at Hanbury.  The person you mentioned is not my George as far as I know.  My George was married to Louisa Wright while working at Feckenham Lodge at Hanbury.  I hope to find a grave or a record although I understand the parish record for this period of time was stolen from the church.  Perhaps one day I will be able to visit and search the graves myself.  If it would not be too much to ask I would like the names of the Nash's that are listed in your book, but I understand that look-up requests can be time consuming.  I used to do them but stopped after my reference books became available on-line.  Again thanks.

Hi Kevin,
I will do some more searching tomorrow but for now I have found George Nash illegitimate son of Sarah Nash of Hanbury , servant bapt 24th April 1831 by W Vernon.
I went to Hanbury Church last August to research my mother's family with the surname Small. A lot of the older graves are very weathered and some have been removed altogether. The later ones are okay.
I have noticed from my book that there are a lot of people with the surname Nash in Hanbury and have been since there since  1579 with two variations on the spelling Nash and Nashe. If you send me your email address I will scan the index lists ( which have the dates) for you then you can tell me which ones you are interested in. There are 86 baptisms  between just 1577 and 1715. You can email me at       (*)

Hi yvon,
My ancestors lived in Hanbury from about 1830, the family name was Cole. I think my 4 x gt grandmother was Eliza who, I think, died in 1840 possibly at the same time as baby Thomas. Would you be able to check this for me?

Thank you very much indeed, that's filled a gap in my data. I don't want to take advantage of you but am interested in other Cole entries, how do you feel about looking them up?

Thank you for your kind offer. I have found baptisms for the following and suspect they died young so if you could look up burials that would be great.

Mary Cole baptised 1830 (?bur before 1837)
William baptised 1832 (?burial possibly 1838)
Samuel baptised 1841 (?burial 1843)
Thomas baptised and buried 1844
Ann baptised 1846 (?bur 1853)
Elizabeth baptised 1847 (?bur 1854 or 1858)
