Janet Ramsdale DOB 1868 Wigan

Trying to find out what happened to Jane Ramsdale she was 3 on the 1871 census and lived 20 Rigbys Yard Wigan. Her parents were James and Alice Ramsdale.  But on the 1881 census James was living as a lodger with his two sons Robert 11 and Thomas 6, 261 Scholes fish shop. But no mention of what happened to his wife Alice or his daughter Jane. His other children Mary A, Ellen and Esther (my great grandmother) I suppose  were old enough to fend for themselves. Who James was lodging with Ellen Rigby and her husband William might have been his daughter but her age does not quite match up with the 1871 census.  I am confused to say the least grateful for any help at all.

2)  Doesnt look like the Ellen Riby was his dtr, as the onyl marriage for Ellen Ramsdale I find in Wigan in that period is:

Just looking at the censuses - I see James calls himself 'married' not ' widower' in 1881.

Jane  .. born 1868 and is actually Jane Ann Ramsdale   Wigan  Wigan and Leigh    WIG /87/157  ??  this looks like her ...could she be under Ann Ramsdale in 1881 census ....allan
ADDED...just checked freebmd and she is registered as Jane Ann Ramsdale on there as well...also on freebmd and lancsbmd

Jane Ann Ramsdale married Charles Beck 1888  Preston Register Office or Registrar attended ...Preston    PRESTON/87/123

maybe you can try and find Jane Ann Beck in the 1891 census ?...if she is born 1868 Wigan on the census , you will at least know she is alive and well in 1891......
James Ramsdale married Alice Houghton in St Georges church , Wigan in 1859
is Jane Ann with her grandparents named Houghton in 1881 ?

Looks like Alice (Wife) died although James still calls himself Married in 1881;

Do you have Alices maiden name?
Was it Houghton ?
Any Trees on this Family seem to not have it.

To me it is HOUGHTON and it appears James/Alice did not Marry til Dec 1859, Wigan, 8c 79
