Since civil registration of births didn't start until 1864 you will need to search for a church baptismal record to try and discover a birthdate and parents' names.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Sarah,

The probable reason why the priest has not replied to you is that he is new and the previous priest had allowed the church records to be transcribed on the understanding that they were to be made available to the public, however this has not happened in the case of Crookstown, the excuse being that a number of records are duplicated with different dates, see link below.

http://kildare.brsgenealogy.com/generic.php?filename=sources.tpl&selectedMenu=showdatabase

If you email Kildare Genealogy they may look your record up and any other for the normal charge of 5 euro per record but I would wait until after the New Year.

It is just bad luck that your research like mine and many others is within the parish of Crookstown. The records that are duplicated are only in the first volume and I have asked them why they can't make the other volumes available but they say that will cause too much confusion when I don't see anything to be confused about. In truth after more than three years to decide what to and no results, I believe they simply just can't be bothered.

Good luck, your are going to need it!

No need to start yet another thread looking for details about this William Kelly so I've merged your latest post with the others. You've given 3 different years for William's birth (1851, 1852, 1853) but as I said at the start you would need to search for church records for pre-registration dates.

you can view the RC records for the parish of Crookstown without charge in the National Library in Dublin. The records go back to 1837 and are on microfilm Pos. 6485. (there appear to be a few gaps in the details)

see : RC Parish of Crookstown and Kilmeade  (Irish Times)

The trouble is the filmed records for Crookstown end 1880 and there are great swathes of over exposed film that are not just illegible but there is nothing to see i.e. like looking at a blank page.
