Glass photograph
« on: Wednesday 26 January 11 13:15 GMT (UK) »
I featured this photo on another topic and have discovered some invaluable information on it: -  http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,509255.0.html

"what you have here is an Ambrotype, first introduced in 1851 & was the norm up until 1859/60 & could still be seen into the early 60's"

This has been scanned at 600dpi and I wondered if anyone could do anything with it.

There is a small part missing although I have some fragments of the glass, the missing part does not really amount to much. The other topic shows this missing part.

thanks

Peter

had a go
GUIDE FOR PHOTO RESTORATIONS PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR SCANNER BED IS CLEAN AND SCAN AT A RESOLUTION OF 300-600 WITH THE SCALE AT 100% MINIMUM.

If you would like a coloured version, details such as hair colour , eyes and clothing etc.  if known  would be helpful to restorers

Regards Roy

Been watching this thread with interest, Peter, you have some great restores.

Because the photo is so dark, I had a little play with the brightness and contrast in my photo editor. It was surprisingly tricky! You lighten it up "just a little more" and suddenly, it's completely washed out and you lose the younger boy :P

I would like to thank everybody who has managed to restore this very old photograph I have. I now have the task of trying to find out who they are.

There are some really superb restores here and I feel very fortunate and so thank you all again.

Peter
