Look up death please
« on: Wednesday 26 January 11 07:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi I would be very grateful if some one could help me please with my great uncles death. I tried the pilot site with out any luck. It did have his birth but I already had that. His name was David Leathem he was born in Lisburn in 1887, he married in 1912. His daughter could not remember when he actually died but thought he died when he was 65 on april 15th  1951/2. His daughter lived in Railway street Antrim, not sure where he actually lived or when his wife died. Would be really grateful for any help. Thank you  :)

The online civil registration index only goes up to 1921 for Northern Ireland counties which is why you didn't find the death.

Birth, death and marriage certificates are kept at GRO in Belfast and you can't just walk in and look up information as you can at PRONI.

Would the GRO do a look up for me do you think ? I live in Australia. I have always been lucky to find the detail before sending for the certificate. But with this one I am not even sure of the year or the place. He is supposed to be buried in Carlingford, but I have had no luck in that area. So I am wondering if that is right. Thanks wendy

Here's the link to the GRONI website:

www.nidirect.gov.uk/index/information-and-services/leisure-home-and-community/history-heritage-and-museums/archive-for-family-and-local-history.htm

If I have understood it correctly, they will do a search for you covering a 5 year period for £6.00. If the event you are looking for is found, they'll tell you and you can then order a copy of the cert, for the usual fee of £14.
