Interested in knowing if there are any of my Gibson ancestors who lived in Hamilton are buried at the Hamilton Old Parish Church? I am hoping to visit Hamilton in July.

Hamilton Old Parish Churchyard Monumental Inscription, which reads:

Plaque on churchyard wall: Erected by the parishioners of (Balmaghin) in memory of their pastor Rev Alexander Gibson who was translated from Glasgow in 1839 and died there 17th August 18(46) (very worn)

Cheers,

Rodeo

Hi sancti

I see from your list of names of the headstones at Hamilton Old Parish Church that there is a Gibson. My great great grandfather William Gibson and his wife Elizabeth lived and died in Hamilton. Would there names be on the headstones you have photographed?

Thanks
Bob

Hi I hope the topic is still open.
I am looking for burials for MORE surname - with spouse Nisbet or Hamilton.
Or if there are only a few MORE/MOIR/MURE perhaps they  could be same family.
Thanks for any help.

Sancti may have a photograph to match this inscription -

"James More died 1st May 1801 aged (.)7 years. Margaret Hamilton his spouse died .............. (eroded)  Also this is the burying place of his son James".

Not much to go on I'm afraid and none of the other names match with any of the inscriptions I have.
Paterson, Torrance, Gilchrist - Hamilton Lanarkshire.
McCallum - Oban, McKechnie - Ross of Mull Argyll.
Scrim - Perthshire.
Liddell - Polmont,
Binnie - Muiravonside Stirlingshire.
Curran, McCafferty, Stevenson, McCue - Co Donegal
Gibbons, Weldon - Co Mayo.
Devlin - Co Tyrone.
Leonard - County Donegal & Glasgow.
