Familysearch also have a marriage in 1801 at St Chad's - John Scarr and Susan Helliwell.

Seems to be a very good bet for the origin of the name.

GENUKI had St. Chad's as CofE, founded before 1170.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

She died age 83 and is buried in Southern cemetery nonconformist section, grave number E1963.
Burie on 16th Sept 1965.
She is buried with :

What can I say after that lot - absolutely amazing even if it has made me rethink the Aysgarth connection somewhat. It is still there going back to 16th century but I was not aware of the other Todmorden connections that you have included here. I did have the 1801 marriage of John SCARR and Susan HELLIWELL - now I have to try to find out where and when that name  came to be in the family and why. Possibly associated with that marriage but there are usually specific reasons behind such a move.
Tomorrow will be spent sorting this lot out onto the tree.
Once again gentlemen, many thanks, should you ever come across the photograph of that grave it would be a nice addition to the setup.
George.

Hi  :D,

Wondered if you had seen this website.  I have found it very useful for my Todmorden links - just had a quick look though and can't see any Scarrs although there are Helliwells and Kershaws.
