Looking for James Lucas Publican 1895-1935
« on: Monday 24 January 11 09:05 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to trace my Great Grandfather James Lucas He married a Rosie Murphy sometime between 1894 and 1899 I've checked all the BMD's but can't find anything, he is on the 1901 census as being from Scotland and on the 1911 it says Newcastle wales, He was a Publican and apparently a Mason

I make the place of birth from 1911 "New South Wales". The children match up though, which seems a good bet for being the same man as 1901.

No hint there of his marriage to Rosie, since he remarried.

Have you seen his birth or death cert, or any of the birth certificates for his children.

If you knew where he was buried I suggest you go to look at the head stone as that may contain extra clues.

There is a marriage in Q1 of 1901 of a James Lucas to Rosie JONES (Liverpool, Register Office or Registrar Attended). Rosie might have been married before.

There's a possible birth registration for Edith Jones (Liverpool Q4 1894) but none showing for Edith Lucas.

In 1892 at St. Peter's, Liverpool there's a marriage of Rosie Murphy to Henry Jones. There are several possible deaths of Henry Joneses, including one in West Derby in 1898 who would be the same age as your Rosie.

No I don't think so, it's just confusing as the 1901 census for him says he was born in Scotland but the 1911 says he was born in Newcastle Wales I can't find anything for him with his fathers name for either
