Hi there, thanks I know of that family, I am trying to find a link with them....

not easy though.... My earliest proven Warden is John, he was in the excise service and his salary book records - which we are lucky enough to have copies of - show he died in 1791 aged 62.. this gives a DOB of 1729.... There are a few John Wardens born around that time including the John you found...

 :)

Patricia

Hi there

Are you still looking?  I have been tracing the Alyth line of Wardens if you are still interested.  Or maybe now you can help me!   There seems to be more on the internet now. A.

Hi Patricia
based mainly on www.johnclaytonsr.com and the memoirs there of Hugh Warden...I have a family tree plotted in both directions. However as he is a key figure we will start with him.
Hugh Warden Born 1745 Alyth Perth. (I have emailed Alyth today..church/school - see what comes)
His parents ive found in The Red Book of Perthshire. page 833 by Gordon Andrew MacGregor.

Hugh  had a son John who stayed in Britain. (another son went to Virginia USA)
So John b 29.9.1787 in Alyth.
He had Charles S Warden 10.8.1817 Ramsgate Kent
He had Charles S Warden 5.12.1839 Ramsgate Kent
Harry Warden 11.1.1863 Ramsgate
This led to my Nan Warden.
However on a family tree I was given 10 years ago there was an extra generation thrown in between Hugh and John... a Thomas. I cannot really see how he fits without a birth and death date. more to come. A

Hi, whilst researching the Alyth family I came across a family bible... Hugh Warden b 1745 is named in this... have you seen the bible in question? it might help you..... I have (hopefully) attached a copy, there is also a diary for a Hugh Warden circulating on the internet...have you seen that too.

I am trying to connect with Adam Warden, school teacher in Alyth, he had a son named John who became an English teacher in Edinburgh... John himself had a son who he named John, he was born in 1729... In our family tree the earliest male we have which is proven is a John Warden, excise officer born in 1729... I am trying to find evidence that our John and Adams son John are the same person...

A number of years ago my father in law told me that the family were connected to the Alyth Wardens, I am trying to find that connection...

regards Patricia

Hi P.   Yes this is the line!  I am just from the other son.  Sounds likely you are connected to John.
Irony is my Uncle Warden was a school teacher too. professions run right down the family line.
I have Hugh on my family tree, then James as his dad... then I think two Adam Wardens, and  another John above him.

Yes, Ive seen the bible extracts. Tantalizing.
I ve had a reply from Alyth.  Oh they do hold quite a bit of info including details of a bell given the community. I plan a visit there at some point to investigate.

Another irony...I lived at Colinton Edinburgh for a bit.  A

Ankaret, just click on the small green scroll under Patricia's name on the l/h side. This will take you through to the Personal Message service (PMs). Works very much like any personal email service and a good way to exchange personal emails.
