I'm sorry that I did not write down the exact information regarding the nurse child and it was some time ago so my memory of that information may be incorrect. I tried to find that again but only found a Thos Brown born about 1871 was 11 weeks old living with a family by the name of Bailey, Thomas and Mary in Somerset County.

I have found some old newspaper articles that Sarah Jane Brown was married to a Edwin C. Mastin. However, later articles indicate that she may not have been legally married to Mr. Mastin. I also found an article regarding Thomas Brown in 1903 indicating his sister by the name of Sarah Van Dusen was living as a housekeeper with a Edwin C. Mastin. Also another article regarding Sarah's daughter, Elizabeth,
that said she came over from England with her husband and other members of her family and settled near Port Byron, N.Y. I have been unable to find any information to confirm Sarah's marriage in England to a person by the name of Van Dusen.

Thos Brown nurse child, is living in Portishead, Somerset (also given as his birth):RG10/2518.

He is not living with them in 1881 and may be the 9 year-old Thomas Brown back with his parents, John and Sarah: RG11/2464.

Thank you for the information regarding nurse child. Since my last post I was able to find a ship's manifest showing that Tom Brown, his mother Martha A. Brown, a brother Albert Brown and a sister Emily Haywart arrived in Niagara Falls in 1899. I am very sure this is the correct Tom Brown. If the age recorded on the manifest is correct (14 years old) he would have been born in about 1885. I have found a Tom Brown born in Blandford and registered in 1884.

Albert Brown is another child that was never found in any family census in England that I have been able to find. According to the manifest he was also born in Blandford about 1886. When Mrs. Brown arrived here she stated she was married, however, in later newspaper articles I have found she remarried here in the States to a William Updyke. I have not found what happened to her first husband William Brown. Albert and a granddaughter's husband by the name of Fothergill was killed by a train in 1913.

These may be relevant:

Jun 1892   Marriage
Blandford 5a 493
Emily Brown
James Hayward (+ one other)

Sep 1887  Births
Blandford 5a 245
Albert Henry Brown

I haven't looked, but often people are listed in censuses under their other name ie Henry.

Again thank you for the information and yes it may be relevant to our family history. Since the information only tells the vol and page # I will probably send for a copy of the birth certificate as well as the marriage certificate to see if the parents are listed.
