HELP NEEDED!
« on: Wednesday 19 January 11 22:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I have previously posted here in regards to Terrence and Florence Buckland. I came across this http://gypsyjib.wetpaint.com/page/1911*Transcriptions+-mixed+counties link which is a transcription of the 1911 census. It shows that Terrence and Florence were in Wednesbury at the time it was taken, with their two daughters Elsie and Elva, which I already knew. What I am wondering is could they be related to the other Bucklands listed on the census who were living on the same site as them? As I am finding it a nightmare to trace Terrence or Florence's parents. Terrence is only listed on the 1911 census - could he have possibly been going by a different name?

Any help or advice much appreciated!

hi, taves, when researching romany family history, remember that first names are used again and again, thats why traveller people tend to use nick names. like kicking tom or black john, its to tell the difference between close family members. there are in my family, six williams, all full cousins. five roberts.eight matts, and so on, some times we will use a second name, i.e william george. may become georgy. or robert william, may become bill?so when a census was taken the first  name they give, may not be the same as the name they use. also its a practice for familys to camp together. so your buckland are more than likely to be relatives. when i was a boy and camps were easier to get,all my relations would shift and camp together, so you would have wilsons millers mitchells lowthers marshalls, all 1st cousins and other romany all related.staying at one camp, at the census time. just to make things harder my 1st cousin as one son, john george. and one george john! with just a year between them. you will also find family groups in streets and houses. my own cousins some times spent months living with us. so could be taken as a family member if asked. no real help i know but may give you an insight into what your after. and as you may know with romanyfolk they are rarely what they tell you?.. cushty.bok.rob..g

Hi just read your message after starting my own ancestry journey two days ago.
I am the granddaughter of Elsie Buckland . I know very little of my heritage but am finding everything a complete revelation & fascinating at the same time.
Have you looked at Romanygenes mixed census which has some interesting facts.
Be fabulous to be able to compare & share notes.
Kind regards
