Hi all.
I have been researching my family history for a year or so now but have never had to venture beyond the UK and could use a hand getting started.
I'm trying to find details of my GGG grandmother: Lavinia Jones. Here's what I know:
- In the 1861 Cencus Lavinia (15) is listed with mother Mary Jones (44 possibly in error)) and little brother George (6) all born in NS (So I'll probably need help locating them too!). Sister Elizabeth is given as 1 yr old and born in Stockport, so it looks like they came to England pre 1860(ish).
- She married Alfred Royle on September 27th 1869 in Heaton Norris, Stockport where her father is given as Peter Jones.
- In 1871 Lavinia (now Royle) (21) is at home with father Peter (42) (born Stockport) and mother Mary (41), Husband Alfred (22) and it looks like George (16) has become William G. Their births are now given as "America". Elizabeth is given as 13
Any help in finding the births of Lavinia Jones, William G or George Jones, and their mother Mary Jones would be absolutely amazing. As a bonus, I'd like to find the marriage between Mary and Peter Jones which looks like it may also have been in Nova Scotia. As the cherry on top, if I could find their journey to England I would be completely made-up!
P.S I don't know if it is important, but on a later census (1901) in Lavinia's place of birth there is a note saying "British Subject". Does this mean her nationality at birth was British or could she have been naturalised?
Thanks in advance,
Andy.
