Most villages in Suffolk have a main street through them and this is usually, 'The Street'. In our village the main road through is The Street, and there is another street at the top of Church Road so that is High Street. Oftern you find a village with Low Street or High Street. Sorry but our ancestors were not very imaginative. Some have a turnpike and some have a green.
In looking at White's for 1844 I notice that there a draper and grocers store run by James Green - so people living in this area were probably recorded as being by Green's shop.
We had no need of numbers/names of houses, everyone knew everyone else in a village so houses tended to be known by the occupants names, hence Fisk Cottage, Bridges' Cottage, Boutell's Cottage etc etc. the places where people lived on the outskirts might have been called Watson's Corner.
I should add that Boutell's Cottage was in my village and Watson's Corner is in Polstead
