I have found a William Normoyle arriving New York from Southhampton on April 7, 1919 aboard the Mauretania.  He is 34, married, foreman, born Australia, Irish, last permanent residence was Oregon, final destination Portland, Oregon, passage was paid by the British Government, had been in US before March 2, 1918, Halifax is stroked out and Oreg written in, is destined to Mrs. Normoyle, 497 N. 21st St., Portland, Oregon.

This is likely the William on the 1920 US Census, age matches which means a birth year of approx 1885--5 years out from your William, b 1890.

Just reading back through the thread, I see that you had the death info for Ruby's parents.  Sorry to have included it again.

Think it's time I went to bed.

Susan

also...Sometimes the spouse isn't buried with them because the other remarried and chose to be interred nest to new partner, or it may be something as simple as they moved out of area ( perhaps to be nearer children? and chose to be buried within area of their new location... He does not appear to be buried in any of the Surrey listings here: http://www.surrey.ca/files/NJuly2010.pdf  (she is internment site: Cedar 008 D-1)

Hi Susan

Well I don't know about all of Australia - but they didn't get married in NSW which is really the only logical place for it to happen as that's where his family was. Well spotted on her mother being on the ship too.
JJ - I don't think she remarried as she died after him and her name was still Normoyle. Both of their deaths are registered in Little Rock - Susan very kindly offered to look up the transcription - so more may be revealed on William's Death Cert. as to where he is buried.
RK - thanks for the link to the Normoyle site - I hadn't seen that one before - oh the joys of a highly uncommon name!

Just re-reading this thread and I wanted to add (for future possible researchers) that William Normoyle and Ruby Agnes Chester actually married in 1925 in New Zealand.

Thanks to all who really helped me crack this mystery open wide.

Cheers

Megan

You may or may not have seen the newspaper clip of the death of William Normoyle. Have only scanned the thread and no idea what Susan may have sent by pm.
