1st Battalion Middlesex Regiment
« on: Wednesday 19 January 11 10:49 GMT (UK) »
Both my maternal grandfather Angus McKenzie Mason and my step-grandfather George Albert Soper served with the Middlesex Regiment. Angus was stationed in Cologne in the early 1920's where he met and subsequently married my grandmother. He was then stationed in Aldershot, Catterick, Colchester and Inglis Barracks Mill Hill. He was posted to Egypt and served in Cairo and Moascar before the battalion moved to Singapore being the first troops to occupy Gilman barracks. My grandmother and mother were also in Egypt and Singapore. H returned to England before the outbreak of WW2. As far as I know he was either a platoon or colour sergeant. George Albert Soper was also stationed in Singapore and returned to England before the outbreak of WW2. He subsequently served in I believe North Africa and Italy. I believe he was a CQMS. I would be grateful if anyone who had relatives serving at the same time could get in touch as I would like to find out more about this period. I also have a number of photos of Gilman Barracks and of parts of the Battalion from that time that I would be more than willing to share and perhaps put names to faces.

Many thanks for any help or input.

Hello glywri. I have just joined this forum, and having done so, have found your old post. My Dad was in 1st battalion the Middlesex Regiment, and looking through his papers, he served in Egypt as well as Singapore. I have an album which Dad created, and some names are written under photos.

glywri, would it be possible to see the photos that you have - my Dad has written some names beneath his photos, and I'm thinking that we may possibly be able to help each other. Unfortunately I'm not able to send you a private message, but I hope that you read this. Many thanks, Loro
