I think they are one and the same person - she may have been Mary Ann known as Ann but the Workhouse used her first name - guesswork really

It's definitely the same family and the children's births are registered as Kendall but there is no Kendall/Wood marriage

They don't appear to have had the best of relationships given that the children were in the WH in 1861 - including 1yr old twins

Matilda doesn't seem to acknowledge him as her father either, given that she excluded the info on her marriage cert

Hi again

William Kendell married Mary Ann Wood at Christ Church in Doncaster in 1862. Details found on www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk.

I can check the marriage record on Tuesday for you if you wish.

Hello again Mary,

Sorry, I have been offline until now and really appreciate all your efforts!
The info. you have given me to date really answers all of my queries - especially that George Caddick married Matilda and that the witnesses were James William and Mary Ann Caddick. These were my direct descendants and George an 'uncle'. George's whereabouts after 1881 when he was with his brother John listed as 'unmarried' and Matilda's whereabouts at that time are now my focus, so thank you for everything.
Best wishes
Julie

I would be grateful if someone with access to the Conisbrough marriage register could look up Thomas Watson & Jane Firth married 1st December 1823. I'm not too hopefull whether the record mentions much else, but specifically if it suggests the occupation for the man & if they are recorded as widow/er. Thanks.

Thomas Watson was a bachelor and Jane FRITH was a widower.  Both of this parish, no occupation given and both signed their names.  Witnesses were William Rotherham and George Hague.

Hope that helps
