I found a reference to my surname, Revans, in correspondence between the Duke of Anjou and Elizabeth 1. The date was 1578 and it was in British History Online.  Can any one help in identifying  who the Revans was? " Sieur des" denotes a gentleman.

Identify who who was? Revans or the Duke of Anjou, cos I can do one but not the other!  ;D

The Duke of Anjou was the son of Henry II of France and Catherine de Medici, and was one of Elizabeth I's suitors.

I think he means the person who has his Surname Revans  :)

Wonder if "des Revans" means "of Revans"- refering to a place rather than person. There is a place in France called Revens (north of Montpellier).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
