St. Wilfrid's R C Preston. Family: Astley
« on: Sunday 16 January 11 03:15 GMT (UK) »
I would appreciate any information on Astley (Astly) family members. The period  is probably from around the 1820's.
Christenings for the children of John Astley, William Astley, and any family godparents or witnesses present.
Marriages for Winifred Astley, John Astley, William Astley.
Names of other Astley family members in the registers.
I have some records for two Edward Astley's.
Many thanks.

Hi
It does not look as if there are any register records in repositories for St Wilfrid's Church so the church could still hold them

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/Preston/StWilfrid.shtml

http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/

but feel free to check with links
In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Father Dunn, the parish priest of St Wilfrid's in the early 19th century took a census of the congregation in 1810 and 1820. There are two Astley families recorded ion 1810:

1810
Astly Jas. F [father] Ty B St [Tythe Barn Street]
Astly  Marg. M [mother]
Astly Marg D [daughter] 1

Astley Edwd Taylors Gardens
Astley John 22
Astley William 20
Astley Winifred 16
Astley Edwd 6

And again in 1820
Astley James 18 Duke [street]
Astley Margt
Astley Margt 12
Astley William 10
Astley Betty 8
Astley Mary 3
Astley Eliza 1

Astley Edward Top of Duke [street]
Astley John
Astley Edward 16
Astley Winifred

I'm pretty sure that Lancashire Records Office holds transcripts of the registers, as does the Society of Genealogists in London.

Hope that's of some use,

Many thanks for the look up you did. I actually have a copy of the Catholic Census. I think the church must still hold the registers, as a Father Birchall, many years ago sent me information from them.

Lets hope there is a kind  Rootschat member who lives near this church and could ask about the where abouts of their PR's for you. Maybe writing to the Church warden or verger?? if they have them in the Catholic church's archives
