OLIVER, William Edward - 2 Mar 1851
« on: Saturday 15 January 11 05:52 GMT (UK) »
He was christened 2 Mar 1851 at St Margaret's Church, Rochester, Kent in England
He moved to Australia and is my Great Grandfather
Just wondering if anyone had any Family History back before 1851
Have his Father as Edward Oliver, and Mother as Ann, and that's all
Regards
Mike

Fortunately, your chap was born before the 1851 census, so . . . .

Reference HO107/1610/281/45
St Margaret Bank, Rochester, Kent

Oliver, Edward  Head  M  27  Labourer  b Meopham, Kent
Oliver, Ann  Wife  F  28  b Ludesdown, Kent
Oliver, William  Son  M  2 months  b Rochester

And a potential marriage:
June qtr 1850, North Aylesford district, vol 5 page 521
Edward Oliver
Ann Phillips

North Aylesford covers both Meopham and Luddesdown parishes
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

You really need the birth and/or marriage certificates, or parish register entries, to get back any further.

However, a potential sighting in 1841:

Webster, William  M  15  Ag Lab

And for Ann:

Baptism of William Edward

Marriage at Luddesdown
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0bap/

Probably the right family as there is a baptism at Rochester St Margaret of a Job Edward OLIVER in 1856 to same parents Edward and Ann

Started to go through the Medway site, but looked like it would take forever to find anything.

Having you supply Census, Baptism and Marriage Entries, as well as the location of what is almost certainly my Great Great Great Grandfather's grave is fantastic !

Absolutely amazed how you guys can turn up such specific information in such a short time, no wonder you thrashed us in the latest Ashes Series !

Finding your way round Medway Cityark can be quite daunting but it's worth persevering as you get better with practice.  It's a fantastic resource.
