marriage look up request
« on: Friday 14 January 11 20:50 GMT (UK) »
hi was wondering if anyone could do a marriage look up i believe the wedding took place at ramsey huntingdon on 26/11/1832 between william speechley and ann cawthorn i believe she was a widow.

ive come to a stand still with this line of my family,in the 1851 census john and ann are living at arnolds lane whittlesey with wife ann and son william and is working as a ag lab.he gives yaxley as his place of birth in 1802..there is a few william speechleys baptised around this time in that area, all others that i have spoken to who are researching this speechley family have all come to a stop at the same place, unable to find a baptism.

so im hoping if the marriage i have is correct then it might give his fathers name..i have a possible baptism on march 25th 1804,parents named william and ann speechley..

i would love to be able to knock this wall down to continue with this line

many thanks

1832 marriages don't include parental information.
Not until 1837.

Have you looked on the A2A manorial record site?  When you enter exact phrase "William Speechley" there are 8 results, some of which are dated in the 1820's and are located  in the Cambridgeshire Country Records (Huntingdon)

hi rena i just looked up the link you sent and i think that the very first on the list would quiet possibly be my william speechley..if his marriage is correct then he would have indeed fathered a daughter before marriage,so i will look into that as soon as possible many thanks for the link,

Hunts Marriage Index shows a marriage in 1832 at Ramsey; William Speechley and Ann Cawthorn widow. Both otp

But in 1851 living in Yaxley was another William Speechley age 47 b Yaxley. He looks more likely to be the one baptised in 1804. He appears to have married Mary Dixie in 1826 in Yaxley. This William also appears in 1841 as aged 37.

And just to confuse matters further there's another William Speechley in 1851 living at Thorney, age 44 born in Yaxley. Any of the three William's could have fathered an illegitimate child in 1824

The same 1824 case is on the online catalogue at http://calm.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/ArchiveCatalogue/SearchArchives.htm.  Huntingdon Record Office is where you'd need to check with to get details of that case. Not sure what it would prove though.

Have you checked Yaxley parish register for baptisms?

thankyou for those mags and thankyou bedfordshire boy and that is the marriage i have for william and ann which would tie in with the information of there son williams baptism.ann was apparently a widow at the time of the marriage and if the 1851 census correct she was 10 years older then william.there sons baptism was at st marys whittlesey in 1833.the problem i have is most of the info i have on this line is from my gt uncle who had someone research it a few years ago,and up until last year i was going through it to confirm what they had,but due to family issues i had to stop and have only been able to start again this last week but as yet havent subscribed to the large sites giving access to records though hoping to within the next week.so i havent checked to see if the family are in the 1841 census.but whoever researched this line stopped at william and ann.and the info my uncle had wasnt confirmed with baptisms etc so thats what i have been trying to do.
i havent as yet been able to visit huntingdon to check the yaxley register,is it available on a disc to buy do you know? with the time i have it would be easier to look in the evening and weekends rather then having to go to the centre on a week day.  thanks patsy
