COMPLETEDLocal Newspaper ?1961-Margaret/Maggie ROBINSON or MONTFORD

My grandmother Maggie Robinson (nee Montford - she may have reverted to her maiden name as she no longer lived with her family) we think died in 1961, probably in Scotland, Edinburgh most likely. The family story is that she was knocked down by a car.  Would this news have appeared in a local newspaper article, or as a death notice? Thanks for any help. hazyfor2

First place to start would be her death certificate- cause of death should indicate place and cause of death. I think the online death certificates only go up to 1960 but the index up to 2006 so you'd have to order the certificate. See www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

I done a general search
there is only 1 Margaret Montford death on the whole site
but it is 1976
there are a few Margaret Robinson death in the 60's time frame
do you know what year Maggie was born may help narrow it down a bit

Thank you both for your replies. I will pursue the death certificate. Her birth date would be c.1885, probably in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland. My NI aunt thinks the death was in 1961, as her husband, Maggie's brother was informed because she had left something to him in her will. It is said that she may have had an additional son after she left, possibly in Scotland.

Thanks Elaine, you will see  that her birth was registered in Ballymena apr/June 1882, so in 1961 she would have been about 79, when I think she was living in Edinburgh. (could have been Glasgow). Hope that may help.

Age in death index really does depend on the information an informant gave and if Margaret shaved a year or two off her age earlier the index may reflect an 'incorrect' age.
