I have Edwin Rugg living in London in 1890.  He is my husband's great grandfather.  Edwin's father is James who was born in Milverton, 1806.  Edwin had brothers, Arthur and James and sister Harriet.  I don't know anything about the brothers and sister.

Hi Merle

My GGGGrandfather was  John Rugg born in Milverton in 1797.  From what I can gather he married twice - 1st time to a Jane Dight of Milverton I think, then a Sarah Sturgeon from ESSEX/London.

I have found a web site for Milverton parish records but there are so many Ruggs I am not too sure who John's father and mother were and any siblings - a stumbling block so far.

There must be a link though to your James I would have thought - maybe brothers?

One of John and Sarah's son's - George emigrated in the late 1800's to Canada - found this on Ancestry.

My family tree is on GenesReunited.

Do you have any more info?

I do believe your John (b. Jan 21, 1798) and my James (b. 1806) were brothers, even though the dates are not exact.

Their parents were William Rugg and Hannah Knight.  They had twin sisters, Betty and Sarah 1793, possibly another Sarah 1802, Hannah 1807, William Jr. ?.

After sorting through parish records on web site and some info from a Mrs. Mothershead I have come up with this as a possible ancestry line.

Your John
His father William and Hannah Knight
Grandfather John and Hannah Owen
GGrandfather John and Grace Hall
GGGWilliam and Mary Ebney

At least it might give you some place to start?

There are no Georges in our Canadian line.  My husband's gGrandfather was Edwin, son of James (possible brother to your John).  Edwin sent his son James to Canada to scout out the land and followed a year later 1905.  This line spent some hundred years or so in London England before coming to Canada.
