Annie Dickens
« on: Thursday 13 January 11 09:40 GMT (UK) »
I have a photograph of my mum and me with Annie Dickens (of Charles).
It was taken in about 1982, when I was 16.
Annie lived in Hereford at the time, and would have been about 70-80 years old.
I have tried to trace the family tree - but nothing mentions this particular Annie Dickens.
Any advice would be great

Thank you

Welcome to Rootschat Goody - and what a needle in a haystack you have just presented us with  ;)

Do you happen to know if Annie was married?

There is a death for an Annie Elizabeth Dickens in Hereford in Dec 1998, aged 101!  Birthdate 29 Apr 1897

Hello there

I am not sure if she was married - but I think not.

How did you find that info :)

I was not able to find anything - but that sounds like it could be her

Ancestry have the BMD indexes up to 2005, and so she was on there - no great magic involved  ;)

Do you know anything of her life - where she came from etc, because if you want to look at her family then I think we may need a few more clues!  Obviously if you are serious about tracing her history, then the death cert will be the way forward.  If she didn't marry or have children then possibly the person registering her death was a nursing home manager or neighbour etc

I am sorry - I do not have much information.

I just know that she is related through my mum/granddads side.

Mum, dad and I went to visit Annie in Hereford in 1982, and that is all I know really.

I wish I knew more

Are your Mum/Grandad still around to find out if they know any more about Annie's origins?

Also, it might be worth going to Hereford archives and seeing if there is anything in the Hereford Times about her 100th birthday; it's still uncommon enough to make these sorts of events newsworthy (especially in Hereford where last week the whole of the front page was dedicated to the story of a couple who also happen to be called Will and Kate, and who also happened to get engaged  ::)  Slow news week or what!)

Sorry to hear about your mum and grandad.  I take it you have traced your grandad's tree back and there is no obvious signs of Annie there?
