I think we're looking for the same ancestors.  My Grandfather's sister was Minnie Mansell.  I've only got back to his grandmother, Charlotte Durran, born in Holywell, Oxford Parish,  around 1820. Her father was called James and her father-in law was William Mansell.  Do you have any more information?

Hi and welcome to Rootschat Margaret1913 and Annette....

I have Holywell Prs and could find no baptism  for Charlotte although the marriage is on there. Im guessing you have this ....
You say Charlottes father was called James so looking at OFHS Oxfordshire Marriage Index i have found the following marriage that would fit

25 Dec 1818 James Durran, Steeple Aston to Anne Allen at Duns Tew

Is it possible Charlotte was born here ?

   Sue :)

i was wondering where the name durran comes from

Birth entry
James Durran Mansell

his father also called James Mansell born 1820 mother also called Charlotte born 1820

Many thanks for all the replies.  It does seem as though Charlotte was  indeed born at Steeple Aston.

Hi Annette

Great to hear from you.  My grandfather was Thomas Mansell, born on 22nd September 1885.  I can remember going down to Long Handborough with him when I was a child.  We visited one of his sisters in her cottage, but I think it must have been Kate as she had an only son who, I think, suffered from cerebral palsy.

How far back have you got in your search?

Margaret
