Hi NorrieG,
Wow!  You are so helpful.  Thank you so much for clarifying that Christina was indeed part of this family.  I am really grateful.
All the best,

Hi Cein

Remember what  you saw on Foster Family Tree
And on it was James Welsh 1842 married Janet Barker
The parents of your Great Aunt  Christina Welsh. 1880

James Parents were John Welsh 8.4.1786 & Elspith Wilson

John Welsh 8.4.1786 Parents were John Welsh & Isabella Anderson

These are their children
Isabel WELSH 29.8.1809
Thomas WELSH 14.5.1811 Kil.
John WELSH 12.6.1816 Kil. Married Elspith WILSON 15.4.1836
William WELSH 2.3.1818 married Charlotte GORDON 22.6.1838
Alexander WELSH 29.2.1820 Kil.
Mark WELSH 8.2.1823 Earlsferry married Betsy WALKER 22.1.1847
Edward WELSH 12.12.1825 died 26.2.1829
Margaret WELSH 17.2.1828 died 27.4.1829
James WELSH 17.6.1830 married Elizabeth PEEBLES 25.7.1862

One of their Children WILLIAM WELSH 2.3.1818 married Charlotte GORDON

Charlotte Gordon was the daughter of my GGGrandfather James GORDON
& Margaret KINNEAR  who  married 20.12.1816 Buckhaven

so it’s a small world we have a far of connection in our past ancestors

William & Charlotte children were

Margaret Welsh born 30.3.1839 died 17.1.1840
Isobella Welsh born 19.10.1840 married George Wallace 2.1.18966 Wemyss
Charlotte Welsh born 17.11.1842 married James Scott 12.8.1867
Margaret Welsh born 9.8.1844 died 20.8.1926 Buckhaven
John Welsh born 22.12.1846 married Helen Wyles 6.1.1873
Janet Kinnear Doby Welsh born 5.5.1852 died 27.3.1923 Buckhaven
James Welsh born 17.5.1854 married Margaret Williamson 23.11.1876
William Welsh born 24.4.1857 married Margaret Dall 1.1.1877

In the 1881 census Buckhaven we have
William WELSH   M   62    M   Earlsferry, Fife, Scotland
   Rel:   Head
Occ:   Mason Emp 7 Men 1 Boy

Its every chance that your James Welsh would have worked
For  William Welsh his uncle.

This may be a bit of a long shot, but I have -

James Buchanan d. 1879, married to Betsy Cairnie d. 1886, both died Buckhaven.
I am wondering if they may have been buried at East Wemyss cemetery? (or would anyone know which cemetery was used for Buckhaven around that time?).

I know that the family stayed in Buckhaven and that their son, James, was married (1873) in the United Presbyterian church, Buckhaven (to Betsy Thomson).

I had posted fairly recently generally on the related families but have since noticed this thread and thought it might just be relevant. Grateful for any advice available.
 :)

Norrie,

Thanks very much for your reply and this information, which has identified my grand uncle - Thomas Buchanan, who is the grandson of Betsy Cairnie. Its also I think possible that Elizabeth Buchanan (also listed above) is the cousin of Thomas.

This has been really helpful to me and I've got a much better picture of the family and their location, and also got a bit closer to tracking Betsy Cairnie!

David
