Perthshire Newspapers - 1930s
« on: Monday 10 January 11 14:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I want to see if my great-grandfather Hugh Allan, who was the schoolmaster in Auchtergaven, Bankfoot, had an obituary or something similar printed in a local paper at the time of his death/funeral (14.11.1935). It would help me trace a lost Uncle if anyone would be happy to point me to some resources or even do a look-up.

Any help greatly appreciated!

No luck, I'm afraid. I searched the local paper, the Perthshire Advertiser, for several weeks from the date of Hugh Allan's death but found nothing, not even an announcement of the death. It's possible there might have been something in the Dundee Courier but it's not available at Perth library. Or maybe the Scotsman, which has an online archive. I also checked in the volumes of Confirmations and Inventories for 1935 and 1936 to see if a will had been confirmed, but drew a blank there too.
