The Potterton's of Ashley

I am looking at the Potterton family which originate from the Wilbarston / Ashley area. In particular I am having trouble finding the baptism' s for the children of George and Elizabeth Potterton, Nee Meakins.

The children are John b1843, William b1845, Mary Ann b1847, Jane b1849, George b 1852, Isaab b1853, Joseph b1858 and Emma b1860. All the family have connections with the parish church with either marriages or burials but I just can't seem to find these baptisms, despite a trip to the records office. Mind you there did seem to be quite a few fiche missing.

If any one could help shed some light I would be grateful.

I cannot find any trace on IGI using specific and general searches and cannot find a single Potterton. BIVRI draws a blank on the details you give but there are dozens of Pottertons and they are all mainly in Lincolnshire, could there be a link with that county?

whizzy it maybe that the Baptism Book is still held at the Church.

Contacting the Vicar maybe an option.

Looking at my "Useful Northants Link" below the N.R.O.
do not cover many years for the Parish.

The 1813+ baptism register may still be in use in the church as Sandy suggested.

But the Bishops Transcripts should be available at the county record office. The 1813+ ones have not been copied or fiched, so you will need to look at the originals. They are known as 'The Late BTs'
The marriages were not always copied, but baptisms and burials always were. Usually up to the 1860-1870's, depending on the parish.

Thank you everyone for taking the time too look for me. The Potterton's were definatly were from Ashley. So I think the next stop will be contacting the vicar and seeing if they still have the originals.

Whizzy as the B.T's are not listed on the N.R.O. site under Parish Records
and I have used quite a few transcribing them.

Try the Northamptonshire Family History Society on my
"Useful  Northants Links" as they have a PND (Personal Name Database).

I do not know if you are close to Ashley itself but there are no remaining
gravestones for the family at the Parish Church.

Thank you seahall, I am actually 'over the border' in leicestershire so not too far away.  I will try as you suggested and see what happens following your links. These are a elousive family although, I have picked up a burial for George's wife Elizabeth in Ashley, For George's father John in Ashley, George's baptism in Ashley and George's son John 1st marriage in Ashley, all at the parish church.

Oh well back to hunting for the proverbial needle in the haystack.
